Adopted mix is now getting aggressive

I have been reading several threads on different training and behavior tips and some of them are great. I guess the problem is where to start first. I have had my dog for about five months now and while some things are getting better others are getting worse. I really like the Cold Shoulder thread and think this could be the way to go to start training all over. A little info below.

I got my female mix, possibly lab/staffy but no one is sure from the pound back in Feb (approx 10months-year old) and when I picked her out she was the innocent quiet dog in here kennel. She had been a stray and was at the pound for two weeks prior to her coming home with me. As soon as she got home she loved anyone and anything that came by the house for roughly the first month. After she started to settle in she started to get an attitude with new guests. If I was there she would be fine but on several occasions my roommates parents came through at odd hours and just walked in the house which after the third time of not listening to me about knocking first she got the fathers hand when he reached out to pet her. Since that it has been downhill. She went from being calm and not a care in the world to any new person who tries to enter the house the hair stands up and she approaches them with head down and ready to bite. When I am home and people come over, she is either in her crate at first till she calms down or on her leash and I am in control of what she does. What is making matters worse my roommate does not take any action like this and tell people to come right in and just ignore her. Normally ends up with a nasty growl or her trying to bite their hand. I need to get the roommate on the same level because she walks all over him, doesn’t listen to him for crap and he still treats her like she is being good so I am losing control more and more slowly.

With that little background any tips on where to start off first so i can nip this in the butt ASAP? I know training is something that never ends with a dog so i want to make sure we both enjoy it and she can go onto a healthy life. Another odd thing is friends that have come through that she has nipped, within 20min she loves them and has no more issues. I will be reading through all the threads as this is posted and I appreciate whatever help is given.

Thanks,
FOX
